In the spring of 2003 the National Heartburn Alliance conducted a survey and found that 26% (an estimated 54 million) of adult Americans suffer from frequent heartburn. So many people suffer from heartburn that it is often not taken seriously, but heartburn can severely limit daily activities and productivity. Over the counter antacids have fast relief, although the prescriptions show the most potent, longest lasting relief by decreasing the production of stomach acid.
